Action: Marine Fisheries Management items Feb. 4-5
Information:  The FWC Commission will discuss several marine fisheries management items Feb. 4-5 at the meeting in Jacksonville including:
  • Establishing an official Lionfish Removal and Awareness Day
  • Federal fishery management updates
  • Magnuson Stevens Act Reauthorization
And draft rules on:
  • Setting the 2015 Gulf red snapper season
  • Making the Lobster Commercial Dive Endorsement transferrable
  • Changes to the Restricted Species Endorsement qualification requirements

Snook - Atlantic

Action: Season opens Feb. 1
Information:  The recreational harvest season for snook in Atlantic state and federal waters (from the Miami-Dade/Monroe county line north) including Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River will open Feb. 1.

Bully netting - workshops


Action:  Three workshops scheduled for February
Information:  The public is invited to attend one of three public workshops on commercial bully netting for spiny lobster scheduled for February. At these workshops, FWC will gather stakeholder input on commercial license requirements, commercial harvest limits and other potential management measures.
Workshop schedule (all are from 6 to 8 p.m. EST):
  • Feb. 23: Key West, Harvey Government Center – BOCC Room, 1200 Truman Ave.
  • Feb. 24: Key Colony Beach, City Hall, 600 West Ocean Drive
  • Feb. 26: Key Largo, Murray Nelson Government Center – Auditorium, 102050 Overseas Highway

Barracuda - Workshops


Action: Three workshops scheduled for February-March
Information: The public is invited to attend one of three public workshops on barracuda scheduled for late February and early March. At these workshops, FWC will gather stakeholder input on potential commercial and recreational bag limits, size limits, gear restrictions, region-specific regulations and other related management options for barracuda.
