Port St. Joe gets final permit needed to dredge its port

The Port St. Joe Port Authority has been issued a permit by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that will allow it to begin dredging its new port.
The permit allows for spoil disposal as part of the planned dredging of the port’s navigational channel to a depth of 37 feet.
Port St. Joe has one of Florida’s 14 deep-water seaports; it has a 180-acre deep-water seaport with nearly 1,900 linear feet of bulkhead at the ship channel turning basin.
The permit is the final milestone in the administrative process and will allow the port to commence with the dredging phase of the project.
Port Authority Chairman Eugene Raffield said “the approval of the permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was the last regulatory requirement before dredging the channel.”

Once dredged, the port in Port St Joe is well positioned for new shipping and industrial opportunities, offering access to rail that will extend to the bulkhead, the Intracoastal Waterway, and state and U.S. highways.
