Sacred Heart
Hospital on the Gulf is celebrating five years of caring for patients in Gulf,
Bay and Franklin counties.
Ten years ago, citizens of Gulf
County asked Sacred Heart Health System to build a hospital that would improve
access to healthcare in the region.
The community raised more than
$10 million in donations and pledges for the new hospital, and the St. Joe Foundation
donated 20 acres of land.
Gulf County residents also voted
to provide revenues from a half-cent sales tax to support care for indigent
patients at the new hospital.
On March 15th, 2010, Sacred Heart
Hospital on the Gulf opened its doors to patient care.
The hospital provides 24-hour
emergency services, inpatient acute care, surgical services and outpatient
services, including digital mammography, ultrasound, MRI, CT, outpatient
rehabilitation and more.
Since opening to patients, Sacred
Heart has cared for nearly 3,000 inpatients, more than 41,000 patients in the
Emergency Department, and provided more than 36,000 outpatient diagnostic exams.
It has also provided more than
200,000 lab tests, and performed more than 2,500 surgeries.
To date, Sacred Heart Hospital on
the Gulf has provided more than $17 million in uncompensated care to people in
need.
Sacred Heart also has extended
its reach with offices in Wewahitchka and Apalachicola offering primary care
and rehabilitation.
