Swimming advisory lifted for Shell Point

The Wakulla County Health Department has lifted the Swim Advisory for Shell Point Beach.
The advisory was issued on April 1st after moderate concentrations of the enterococcus bacteria were found in the water there which could pose a health risk to swimmers.
Health officials take water samples from beaches around Florida on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule to insure that the water is safe for swimming.
The last water samples were taken on Franklin County beaches on April 14th and even though there are no swimming advisories, moderate concentrations of bacteria were found at Alligator Point and at the 11th street east beach on St. George Island.
Higher concentrations were found at the St. George Island public beach.
Water samples were also taken in Gulf County of April 14th and there are no swimming advisories in that county though moderate concentrations of bacteria were found at Dixie Belle beach.
You can see the sample results for beaches around the state at the Department of Health Beach Water Quality website.
