County Commissioners are looking for
local park projects for which they can seek state funding.
The board
found out this week that they can apply for two Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grants – but they only have until
August 14th to get the applications in.
The commission already has one
FRDAP grant active – it is paying to move the playground equipment and to do
other work at Vrooman Park in Eastpoint.
The board would really like to
get a grant to build a soccer field and basketball court at DW Wilson park –
but the last time they applied for money for that work the project didn’t rank
high enough to get funded.
Because of the short amount of
time there is to apply for the grants, the board agreed this week to allow
county staff to pick the projects they think are most likely to be funded.
Commissioners will then be
notified of the options and commission chairman William Massey was given
approval to sign the grant requests without the board having to meet on the
issue again.
