County Commissioners have agreed
to approach the state to see if county workers who oversee inmate work crews
can get additional retirement pay.
District 1 commissioner Pinki
Jackel raised the issue – she said those workers who supervise inmates are in
harm’s way and should get high risk retirement pay.
She said they do a lot of the
same work that correctional officers do, and they are out there with shovels
and other tools so there is a risk factor there.
Commissioners said the difference
is likely in the amount of training that correctional officers get over county
employees but still felt it was worth looking in to.
Commissioners said the issue
could impact almost every county employee since all county workers are
certified to oversee inmate crews even if they don’t do it on a regular basis.
