The Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission will hold a public meeting in Panama City today to
discuss the problem of derelict vessels.
Derelict
vessels and their removal is an expensive and growing problem for many coastal
counties.
Some
counties in south Florida can spend well over 100 thousand dollars a year on
the removal of abandoned boats after they begin to sink.
One
of the biggest problems with removing derelict vessels is identifying the boat
owner.
Many
abandoned boats change hands multiple times and are never registered, which
makes it difficult for officers to contact the owners
That
leaves the county paying the tab.
The
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a few proposal on how to
deal with the problem and would like hear what the public thinks.
The
commission will hold a public meeting in Panama city this evening to discuss
derelict vessels – It will be begin at 3:30 Eastern Time at the Bay County
commission chambers in Panama City.
