Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council releases draft list of restoration projects

The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council has released a draft Funded Priorities List for public comment.

The list details active restoration projects in key watersheds from Texas to Florida totaling nearly 140 million dollars, and recommends setting aside another 44 million dollars for future projects.

The money comes from a settlement with Transocean, the drilling company involved with the BP oil spill in 2010.

The list includes four projects in the Apalachicola Bay totaling more than 6.2 million dollars.

The projects include Apalachicola Watershed Agriculture Water Quality Improvements, an assessment of the watersheds in the Tate’s Hell State Forest, restoration of wetlands in Money Bayou and the restoration of about 220 acres of oyster bars in the Apalachicola Bay.

You can see the full list of projects online at restorethegulf.gov.

You can also comment on the proposals at that site.

There will also be a number of public hearings on the projects around the Gulf.

In Florida that will be done through a Public Webinar on October 22nd.
