A Tallahassee fugitive who was wanted for more than 36 felony fraud warrants in Leon County and over 60 additional felony charges from agencies in Tallahassee, Franklin County, Gadsden County, Wakulla County and Thomas County, Ga., was arrested in Wakulla County on Tuesday.
49 year old Evelyn Karrey Hart was arrested after a high speed chase that started in Medart and ended after Miss Hart crashed near the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge.
Law enforcement had been on the lookout for the fugitive who was wanted for the theft of checks and the forging of checks collected during area burglaries.
Just after 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, detectives spotted Miss Hart’s vehicle on Highway 98 in Medart.
Officer made contact with Hart at an automotive business but when they approached her vehicle, Miss Hart drove off nearly striking one of the detectives with her car.
The pursuit proceeded eastbound on Highway 98 at speeds over 100 miles per hour.
Detectives broke off the chase because of the high speeds but soon found the vehicle crashed into a tree on Robinson Hill Road.
Miss Hart had fled on foot.
She was quickly found trying to cross Jack Crum Road toward the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.
During the arrest, Hart was found in possession of a pouch that contained crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Hart now faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest without violence, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary, grand theft and an out of county warrant in the Medart incident.
She is also a suspect in several Wakulla County burglaries as deputies discovered stolen property inside her vehicle.
Investigators estimate that Hart will have more than 130 warrants from all the arresting agencies once the investigation concludes.
