Franklin County Commission approved 2015-16 budget

The Franklin County Commission has given final approval to next year’s budget.

The 44.1 million dollar budget was approved unanimously on Monday afternoon.

The new budget takes effect October 1st.

The amount that will be paid by local taxpayers is a little over 10.6 million dollars – that’s about 50 thousand dollars more than last year.

But this year’s budget does not count as a tax increase.

The additional money comes from an increase in the taxable value of property in Franklin County which rose by 2.4 percent over last year.

It’s the second year in a row that Franklin County has seen an increase in taxable land value since 2007.

People with a 150 thousand dollar home and a 50 thousand dollar homestead exemption will see their annual taxes drop by 12 dollars next year.

If you have a 100 thousand dollar home that is homesteaded you’ll save 7 dollars in taxes.
