County commissioners have agreed to update the county’s
animal control ordinance.
Animal Control Director Fonda Davis made the request at
Tuesday’s county commission meeting.
He said the ordinance was written in 2001 and is really in need
of being updated – the last time it was changed was in 2006 when the county
added the requirement that dog, cat and ferret in Franklin County have to have
their rabies vaccinations up to date.
The commission also agreed to create an interlocal agreement
with the cities of Carrabelle and Apalachicola so the county animal control
department can operate within the city limits.
The county’s attorney will update the ordinance and create
the interlocal agreement for a future county commission meeting.
