La Paz elected Mayor of carrabelle; Johnson remains Mayor of Apalachicola

Carrabelle has a new mayor.

Brenda La Paz was elected to the Mayor’s seat in Tuesday’s city elections.

Mrs. La Paz received 238 votes to 190 for Joe Hamm.

There were 5 candidates for two city commission seats in Carrabelle.

The top two vote getters were Keith Walden with 250 votes and Frank Mathes with 178.

 Gene Spivey received 135 votes, Mel Kelly received 120 votes, and Chester Reese received 98.

Voter turnout in Carrabelle was 50.4 percent.

Apalachicola voters sent two incumbents back to office.

Mayor Van Johnson won his race against Gregory P. Wynot 540 to 370.

Johnson took nearly 60 percent of the vote.

Jimmy Elliot will continue to serve as city commissioner.

He defeated Charles Kienzle 500 votes to 407.

Voter turnout in Apalachicola was 57.4 percent.
