The
Panhandle Players group has expressed an interest in overseeing the historic Chapman
auditorium and the county has agreed to work with them.
The Panhandle Players is an
amateur theater group – they have been in operation for 28 years.
Over that time the group has
rented numerous venues for their shows including the Dixie Theater and local
fire houses.
Panhandle Players President Ed
Aguiar said this agreement would give the group a permanent home.
He added it would also allow the
Panhandle players to do some improvements in the historic building,
specifically making it more handicapped accessible.
County commissioners said they
have no problem with the proposal as long as other groups can use the
auditorium too – Mister Aguiar assured them would not be a problem.
He said they would not charge a
fee for using the auditorium, but could charge a small amount if a group needed
to use the panhandle players sound or lighting equipment.
County commissioners approved the
measure and asked the county attorney to begin working on an agreement.
