Experience the natural beauty of the St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve at the Bay Day Celebration. Activities include tram tours, nature walks, educational presentations and a low country boil.
"Over the past few years, the Bay Day Celebration has grown to become an excellent opportunity to educate Floridians about the plants and wildlife that are unique to the preserve," said Dylan Shoemaker, St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve manager. “We are thankful for the event sponsor, The Friends of St. Joseph Bay Preserves, and the numerous volunteers who make this event a success."
Three tram tours will be offered on Bay Day at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. During the tram tours, guests will view rare, native and endangered plants as well as prescribed burns sites. A tour guide will also discuss research taking place at the preserve, the history of the area, and the plant and animal species native to the buffer preserve. For outdoor tours, participants are encouraged to wear a hat and closed-toed shoes, bring insect repellent, sunscreen and a refillable water container.
New to the event is a reptile viewing station, where guests can learn about snakes, turtles and other reptiles that are provided by the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve.
