Local authorities
arrested 12 people on Thursday during a county-wide drug sweep.
Franklin County
Sheriff’s Deputies along with officers from the Carrabelle Police Department, the
Apalachicola Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit
took part in the sweep.
They arrested 8
people in Carrabelle and 4 in Apalachicola.
Most of the charges
are for “Sale of a Controlled Substance”, including Methamphetamine and
Marijuana.
The Franklin county
Sheriff’s Office said it has had an increased number of complaints about Methamphetamine
in our county over the past year and feels it is becoming a much more serious
problem for our community.
The Sheriff’s
office said that Meth poses a larger problem than just dealers and users.
Since Meth can be
manufactured in homes - meth labs produce a large amount of hazardous waste
that is often poured into the ground, or nearby water sources.
The more immediate
dangers are from the vapors created while cooking Meth.
The toxic fumes can
cause brain damage and are highly flammable, creating a great risk to fire or
explosions.
