The US Army Corps of Engineers has
extended the public comment period for the Master Water Control Manual for the
Apalachicola Chattahoochee Flint River System.
The Mobile District
of the USACE announced an additional 45 days for the public to comment on the
proposed manual.
The extended
comment period was approved at the request of various stakeholders throughout
the basin to allow them an opportunity to completely review the documents.
The new comment
deadline period is January 15, 2016.
It had been set to
expire on December 1, 2015.
The Master
Water Control Manual is the guide used by Corps of Engineers to operate the
five reservoirs on the Chattahoochee River.
The proposed
manual has received a lot of criticism from Florida officials because it does
not require enough freshwater flow to protect the Apalachicola Bay and its
oyster industry.
