Franklin County sees a drop in major crimes in first 6 months of 2015

The number of major crimes committed in Franklin County was down nearly 20 percent in the first 6 months of the year.
                           
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released its semi-annual crime report on Friday which shows the numbers and types of major crimes committed between January and June.

There were 109 major crimes reported in Franklin County in the first 6 months of this year – that’s down from 136 over the same time period last year.

The decrease was seen primarily in the numbers of burglaries and larcenies.

There were 17 aggravated assaults in Franklin County during the first 6 months of 2015, one fewer than in the first 6 months of 2014.

There were 31 burglaries, down from 41 in 2014 and 49 larcenies, dowen from 71 the year before.

There were 3 forcible rapes, up from 1 the year before, and there were 2 robberies – there were none in the first 6 months of 2014.

There was also a slight increase in the number of motor vehicle thefts from 4 to 6.

There was also one murder in the first 6 months of the year, the same number as last year.

The number of cases being cleared dropped from 42.6 percent to just under 37 percent.
