Lower natural gas prices could mean lower rates for Duke Energy customers

Duke Energy Florida customers could see a rate cut in the next few months.
The company this week filed a request with the Florida Public Service Commission to reduce rates beginning in April.

Duke said the reduction comes from lower than projected natural gas prices.

If the rate reduction is approved, residential customers would see a $5.83 savings for 1000 kilowatt hours of electricity - the price would drop to $108.32 for residential customers.
Business customers will also see similar rate reductions depending on a number of factors including rate class and type of service.

Duke Energy said this would be the fourth rate cut in three years and added that customers will be paying about 21 percent less for electricity than they were in January 2009.
