Red tide was found in very low
concentrations in one water sample taken from the Apalachicola Bay last week.
Red Tide is an organism that in
large enough concentrations releases a neurotoxin that can kill fish and even
affect humans with eye, nose and throat irritation.
According to the most recent red
tide report from the Fish and Wildlife Conservation commission, red tide was
found in very low concentrations in one water sample taken south of Crooked
River Road in St. George Sound.
It was not found in any other
water samples taken from the Bay – in fact it was not found in any other
location in northwest Florida.
Red Tide was last seen in the
Apalachicola Bay last December.
