Franklin
County is considering an ordinance to control the use of air guns in Lanark
Village.
The board is taking the action in
response to complaints from Lanark Village residents who say that children in
the neighborhood are abusing pellet guns and BB guns and there is currently nothing
anyone can do about it.
Lanark resident Richard Fravel
said there are a number of families in Lanark that do not supervise their
children and now that summer is here and school is out the kids are running
loose in the community.
He said the children are testing
the limits of civility and the law.
Mister Fravel asked that the
county pass an ordinance banning the discharge of pellet guns, BB guns and
slingshots in the Lanark Village community, so when the sheriff’s department
responds to the next call they can actually do something about it.
Commissioners said similar
ordinances already exist in the cities of Carrabelle and Apalachicola and they
did not see a problem creating one for Lanark Village.
At this time the ordinance will
not impact other areas of the county.
