Franklin county's major crime rate jumps nearly 27 percent in 2015

            Franklin County’s major crime rate increased by nearly 27 percent last year according to the state’s annual crime report released last week by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The report includes crimes like murder, rape and aggravated assaults reported by city and county law enforcement from January through December, 2015.

State data shows that there were 270 major criminal offenses in Franklin County last year, up from 212 in 2014.

There were 2 murders in Franklin County last year; there was one in 2014.

The number of forcible rapes doubled from 3 to 6.

The number of burglaries jumped from 51 to 72, and the number of larcenies increased from 119 to 166.

The number of robberies remained unchanged at 1 and there were also 7 motor vehicle thefts in both 2014 an 2015.

The one crime statistic that fell last year was the number of aggravated assaults which dropped from 30 in 2014 to 16 last year.

Local law enforcement was able to solve about 22 percent of the crimes last year, down from over 46 percent the year before.

The crime rate in Gulf County fell by about 4 percent last year.

There were 324 major crimes reported in Gulf County last year down from 341 the year before.

Gulf County saw increases in the number of rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults and burglaries but saw decreases in the number of larcenies and motor vehicle thefts.

There was one murder in Gulf County last year, the same as the year before.
