NOAA Fisheries is
extending the red snapper recreational fishing season in the Gulf of Mexico by
two days.
The federal agency said the extension
was requested by fishermen and officials because of the impacts of Tropical
Storm Colin.
The recreational red snapper fishing
season was scheduled to close at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on Friday
June 10, 2016.
NOAA Fisheries is extending the federal
season for two additional days; the private angler red snapper federal
season will now close at 12:01 a.m. (local time) Sunday,
June 12, 2016.
The red snapper season in Florida
state waters is considerably longer than the federal season.
Fishermen can take red snapper in
Florida state waters for 78 days this year.
Florida’s season is currently open continuously through July 10th.
The season will also be open on weekends through September and October.
