Ballots
are due at the local elections office before 7 o’clock this evening if they are
to be counted in the school district referendum.
The
Franklin County School District is holding the mail-in referendum so voters can
decide whether to allow the school district to increase its operating budget by
a half mill.
Voters
first approved the issue in 2008, and again in 2012.
It has to
be renewed every 4 years.
The current
approval ends on June the 30th.
If voters
approve the measure today it will allow the school district to free up
construction money and put it in the operating budget where it can be used for
teacher and employee pay as well as other operating expenses.
The
referendum is being done through the mail, and the ballots were mailed out in
mid-May.
The ballots
will be counted today, so they have to be at the elections office before 7 PM
when the election closes.
If you did
not receive a ballot in the mail you can go to the elections office today to
vote; if you received a ballot but neglected to mail it back, just bring it to
the elections office in Apalachicola or Carrabelle before 7 o’clock this
evening.
