The
Senior Companion Program which was started in 1974 is a part of the Senior
Corps which also has the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and Foster
Grandparent Program. The Senior
Companion program is open to volunteers aged 55 and over who can serve from 15
to 40 hours per week. In 1991, Elder
Care Services, Inc., acquired these programs.

• 110 Senior Companion volunteers served
78,912 hours
• At
the end of the year, 95.45% of clients felt that they had increased social
support because of their relationship with a Senior Companion
• 12
adult day care client caregivers also reported that their quality of life was
maintained due to the service of a Senior Companion
Volunteer
Stations/Placements: Big Bend Hospice (Wakulla and Gadsden),
Gulf County Senior Citizens, Holmes County Council on Aging, Liberty County ,
Franklin County, Washington County Council on Aging.
Duties
will consist of, but not limited to: in-home companionship, in-home light
homemaking and/or some transportation of primarily older adults.
Benefits
will consist of, but not limited to: A tax-free stipend of $2.65 per hour (i.e.
$53.00 per week or $212.00 per month), on-duty accidental and liability
insurances, travel assistance (i.e. $0.445), paid leave and holidays and paid
pre-service orientation and monthly in-service trainings.

will consist of, but not limited to:
meeting new people, volunteering with a national service program with a
history over four decades, making a difference and helping to improve the life
of primarily older adults and improving and maintaining your overall physical
and mental health.
