Apalachicola teen charged with burglaries at Cape San Blas

An Apalachicola teenager has been charged in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries in Cape San Blas.
The seventeen year old, whose name has not been released, surrendered himself to the Gulf County Sheriff’s office on August the 18th.
The burglaries occurred during the weekend of July the 16th.
The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office said it received reports that five firearms were stolen along with a Yeti Cooler, a video camera, and several pairs of Costa Del Mar sunglasses from unsecured vehicles belonging to vacationers.
Gulf County said it received a tip from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office that the teenager may be involved.
The teen was later stopped on July 18th by a Gulf County deputy responding to a suspicious person complaint in the Cape San Blas area.
During the investigation, the teen admitted to being involved in the vehicle burglaries at Cape San Blas.
A search of the juvenile’s home in Apalachicola found one of the stolen firearms, the Yeti Cooler, the video camera and two pairs of Costa Del Mar sunglasses.
A witness said that the juvenile threw one of the stolen firearms out of the vehicle when he was pulled over on July 18th.
A search of that road side area was conducted and a .45 caliber handgun was recovered.
The owner of the firearm was identified and confirmed it had been stolen out of his vehicle while vacationing in Cape San Blas.

The teen has been charged with four counts of Burglary of a Conveyance and three counts of Grand Theft.
