Press Release………………
All Gulf District Schools will be closed Thursday!... due to impending threat from the tropical weather system bearing down on northern Gulf Coast.
The safety and well-being of students has always been the top priority of Gulf District Schools. Governor Scott has declared a state of emergency for nine counties including Gulf. Gulf County has been placed under a Tropical Storm Warning. Portions of coastal Gulf County are under a Hurricane Watch. There are three tall bridges within the county which will be closed to high-profile vehicles such as school buses when winds reach tropical storm force. Taking these factors into consideration and after extensive consultation with state and local emergency management officials, the District has made the decision to close all Gulf District schoolstomorrow, Thursday, September 1. School closures assure the continued safety of students and staff and affords families the opportunity to address storm preparedness issues. Afterschool programs and athletic events have been also cancelled for Thursday only.
Again, school closures are scheduled for Thursdayonly.
Presently, the District plans to resume classes on Friday, but will monitor the situation closely and notify the public via all-call and local media if necessary. Anyone with questions and concerns is asked to contact the schools or district office at 229-8256. Thank you.
