MANDATORY EVACUATION NOTICE
FRANKLIN COUNTY
RESIDENTS
Franklin County is issuing a mandatory evacuation order for all barrier islands including St. George Island, Dog Island, Alligator Point, Ball Point and Low Lying Areas subject to tidal and coastal and river flooding. This includes Rio Vista and Hickory Hammock due to the predicted 4-7 FT Storm Surge in the Ochlocknee River. Tropical Storm Hermine is predicted to make landfall as a CAT 1 Hurricane sometime tonight or earlyFriday Morning.
Storm Surge will be a concern with inundation values predicted to be at 5-7 feet above normal.
Franklin County is in the Cone of Uncertainty. We are asking that all Residents who live along the coastline or are prone to surge flooding to complete their preparations. This includes but is not limited to:
- Secure yard items such as chairs, umbrellas, etc.
- Secure Boats and Vehicles – This includes moving vehicles to higher ground.
- Make sure your disaster kit is ready and accessible.
Crawfordville Elementary is open as a shelter; however, we recommend to relocate to a hotel rather than a shelter.
Franklin County Courthouse will close at 12:00 Noon today and will reopen Tuesday 09/05/16
Franklin County Schools are closed but will reopen Tuesday 09/05/16
Rainfall – 5-10 inches are expected with 15-20 inches in isolated areas.
Sand Bags are available at the Franklin County EOC, 28 Airport Road, Apalachicola. Also available at County Road Department on Hwy 65 in Eastpoint, Old County Annex on E Hwy 98 in Carrabelle, and the County Yard on Bluff Road in Apalachicola. Sand bags are limited to 10 bags per household and only if you are prone to coastal flooding or your house is on ground level.
