County officials are getting complaints
about the number of political signs that are popping up on local right of ways,
but they likely aren’t going to do much about it since the political season is almost
over.
County coordinator Michael Moron said it usually
falls to the road supervisor to remove political signs from county roads and
store them at the road department.
Mister Moron said the complaints weren’t about any
safety issues, they were more about the fact that the signs are there.
Commissioners decided to leave the signs for now
but to start letting candidates know during the next political season that the
signs are not allowed on county property.
Political signs are not only prohibited on county
roads, but on state roads too.
Improperly
located signs on right of way pose a traffic safety hazard that can distract
motorists or block their view
and present obstacles to crews who maintain roadways.
Political
signs placed on state right of way are removed by the Department of
Transportation and placed at one of the department’s operations centers.
FDOT
personnel do make reasonable attempts to preserve campaign signs that are taken
down and to provide campaign offices an opportunity to claim the signs.
