Franklin County
commissioners were forced to delay the opening of bids for renovation projects for
the Carrabelle Beach Park and St. George Island Public Beach bathroom because
of Hurricane Hermine.
The county was scheduled to open the bids on
September 6th but had to reschedule because the Courthouse was
closed on the Friday before the bid opening due to Hurricane Hermine.
That means that some of the contractors were
not able to turn in their bids.
Contractors have now been given till
September the 16th to submit their bids and bid openings will happen
on September 20th
County officials say they expect bids from at
least 4 - 5 companies.
Both public restroom areas are in need of
repair, Carrabelle beach most of all.
The bathrooms at the roadside park at
Carrabelle beach were built in the 1950’s and age and seawater are taking their
toll.
The restrooms need new roofs as well as a new
electrical panel and lighting system.
The restrooms at the St. George Island public
beach are much newer but are still in need of a little renovation.
The renovations will be funded with about 150
thousand dollars raised through the local bed tax.
