Most of the Apalachicola Bay will reopen to oyster harvesting on Friday morning

Much of the Apalachicola Bay will reopen to oyster harvesting at sunrise on Friday.

The Department of Agriculture said areas 1601 and 1611 will reopen; those are the approved winter harvesting areas.

The Conditionally approved winter harvesting areas will also reopen at sunrise.

Those are areas 1612, 1622, 1632 and 1642.

The state is also reopening a private lease.

Alligator Harbor remains closed to shellfish harvesting as do two conditionally approved harvesting areas in Wakulla County waters.

The entire bay was closed to oyster harvesting last week as Hurricane Hermine was bearing down on the area.

Biologists have since taken water samples to insure that the bay is safe for oyster harvesting.
