Volunteers remove nearly 11 tons of trash from Franklin County's coastline during coastal clean-up

Franklin County’s coastline is a lot cleaner today thanks to a few hundred volunteers and a lot of work.
The annual Coastal Cleanup was held last Saturday removing over nearly 11 tons of trash and debris from the local waterfront.
That’s almost 3 tons of trash more than last year.
In total 349 volunteers took part in the one-day cleanup.
That’s fewer people than last year; some of the volunteers might have been kept away by the bad weather.
But those that did turn out worked hard and removed 346 bags of trash from 17 different locations.
The trash was primarily the type of trash you would expect to see including cans, bottles, cigarette butts, plastic, styrofoam, fishing gear and ropes.
But every year volunteers find a few interesting items too.

This year they found a Darth Vader case, the skull of a wild hog, a bathroom sink full of oyster shells, a fire hydrant, a refrigerator, a bear trap, 9 baseball caps, and a (half) bottle of rum.
