Florida's State Forests are celebrating their 80th anniversary this month

Florida's State Forests are celebrating their 80th anniversary this month during State Forest Awareness month.

There are about 60 thousand acres of state forest on Franklin County, with numerous opportunities for hunting, hiking, camping and paddling.

There are also about 150 miles of trails in the Tate's Hell State Forest that allow for All Terrain vehicles, giving off-road drivers some great views of various ecosystems including cypress swamps, blackwater creeks and pine flatwoods.

Tate’s Hell State Forest will officially celebrate the 80th anniversary on October 22nd at the Gully Branch Recreation Area outside of Carrabelle.

The event will include a paddle down the New River.

You ca bring your own canoe or kayak or there will be a limited number of (no-cost) reservable kayaks available.

If you want to take part you should make your reservation as soon as possible.

Just stop by or call the Carrabelle Division of Forestry office at 850-697-3734.
