Franklin County commissioners have
started seeking a new director for the Franklin County Public
library.
Library director Anne Birchwell
announced her sudden retirement as library director on October 23rd
citing health reasons.
She has held the position since late
2013 and in that time has expanded library hours to include Saturdays
to make it easier for working people to use the library.
She had also implemented a number of
new programs including a childrens' reading program, music training
and ipad training just to name a few.
The library is now closed on Saturday's
until a new director is hired because there is not enough staff to
cover all of the shifts.
And there will likely be some other
changes.
Commissioner Smokey Parrish said he
wants the county to adopt protocols and procedures of how the library
should run, just like the county has for every other department and
he feel those procedures need to be in place before a new director is
hired.
He said whoever is hired will be in
charge of the library system, not just the Eastpoint branch or the
Carrabelle branch.
He said we can no longer have the
Eastpoint branch of the library operating one way and the Carrabelle
branch operating another way.
He added that if either of the library
branches wants to break away, we can do that too, but he doesn't want
to fund it.
He said if they want to break away they
can find their own funding and do their own thing.
