Franklin County sees a big drop in crime in the first 6 months of 2016

The number of major crimes committed in Franklin County was down nearly 28 percent in the first 6 months of the year.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released its semi-annual crime report on Monday which shows the numbers and types of major crimes committed between January and June.

There were 79 major crimes reported in Franklin County in the first 6 months of this year – that’s down from 109 over the same time period last year.

The decrease was seen primarily in the numbers of burglaries and aggravated assaults.

There were 12 aggravated assaults in Franklin County during the first 6 months of 2016, five fewer than in the first 6 months of 2015.

There were 18 burglaries, down from 31 in 2015 and 45 larcenies, down from 49 the year before.

There were no forcible rapes in Franklin county the first 6 months of this year, as well as no murders and no robberies.

The number of motor vehicle thefts also fell from 6 to 4.

And the number of cases cleared increased from about 37 percent to nearly 61 percent.
