Great Florida Birding Trail website gets major update
If you would like to go bird watching along the panhandle section of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail you can now get a lot more information on the trail's newly revamped website.
The Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail is a 2,000-mile, self-guided highway trail that connects and unifies 515 birding and wildlife viewing sites throughout Florida.
There are 78 different viewing sites across the 16 counties in the panhandle, from the Perdido River on the Alabama border to the Aucilla River in Jefferson County
The trail includes 23 sites in Franklin, Gulf and Wakulla Counties.
Some of the local viewing sites include the St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge, the State Park on St. George Island, and numerous sites in the Tate’s Hell State Forest.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recently revamped the trail website so it includes individual trail site pages – so you can find out useful information on each stop on the trail.
Each site page includes a short description of the site, the site address (with a link to a google map), a link to the site's trail map.
You can also find the site's contact number and hours of operation, a link to a trip planning tool, and a link to an e-Bird checklist for recent bird sightings.
