Newly
-elected Franklin County sheriff Tony Smith has named a nine-member
team to help as he transitions into office.
Sheriff
Smith said the team was selected to bring different areas of
expertise, and will participate in interviews with Sheriff's Office
personnel to determine the level of morale and issues important to
the internal health of the agency.
The
team will submit a report to Sheriff Elect-Smith to facilitate
organizational, policy and personnel decisions once he takes office.
The
team members represent a wide variety of community stakeholders and
several other experts in law enforcement and management and include
retired Pasco County sheriff Bob White, Bay County Chief Deputy Joel
Heape and retired FDLE commissioner Jerry Bailey.
Local
attorney Kristy Banks will also serve on the committee as will
teacher Lindsey Bockelman, CPA Mark Friedman and retired banker Ted
Ruffner.
Dr.
Ed Naggiar who specializes in organizational and leadership training
will serve on the committee as will Retired Army Major General James
E. Donald.
Other
key functions of the team will be to study the financial picture of
the current sheriff's office and help develop a sound budget going
forward and look for areas to consolidate or to combine similar
services and eliminate redundancy.
The
group will be also asked to study cost centers such as payroll
practices and purchasing policies for insurance, automobiles,
communications and other equipment.
The
Sheriff's office said the transition team is fully voluntary and none
of the members are being paid.
