Apalachicola National Forest closes roads due to large ceiling insulation spill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 13, 2018 - The Apalachicola National Forest has temporarily closed sections of Forest Service Roads (FSR) 358, 370 and 324, as well as Silver Lake OHV Trail 1 because of a large ceiling insulation spill in the area.

To protect public health and safety, the U.S. Forest Service is treating the spill as potentially hazardous material until test results from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection indicate the material is free of asbestos. The Florida Department of Transportation also has been notified.

Specific road closures include:

  • FSR 358 is closed between the entrance to the Silver Lake Recreation Area to Dog Lake Tower Road (FSR 324).
  • Aenon Church Road (FSR 370) is closed from the end of the pavement to FSR 358.

The U.S. Forest Service will open these roads and the OHV trail as soon as the state agencies involved have determined it is safe to do so.
