Franklin County’s major crime rate fell by over 6 percent last year

Franklin County’s major crime rate fell by over 6 percent last year according to the state’s annual crime report released last week by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The report includes crimes like murder, rape and aggravated assaults reported by city and county law enforcement from January through December, 2019.

Franklin County numbers are not complete as the Apalachicola Police Department was unable to report for 2019, and Carrabelle Police Department was unable to report for 2018 and 2019.

State data shows that there were 270 major criminal offenses in Franklin County last year, down from 288 in 2018.

There were no murders in Franklin County last year there were also no robberies

There was 1 forcible rape in 2019, down from 3 the year before.

The number of burglaries dropped from 48 to 33, and the number of larcenies fell from 182 to 169.

The number of aggravated assaults increased from 52 to 58.

The were 9 vehicle thefts in 2019, which is up from only one the year before.

Local law enforcement was able to solve about 43 percent of the crimes last year, down from about 50 percent the year before.

Gulf County saw a big increase in crime numbers last year.

The crime rate in Gulf County jumped by over 23 percent last year.

There were 232 major crimes reported in Gulf County last year including 1 murder.
