Support the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab: Global Giving Tuesday Now!

#GivingTuesdayNow
Today is Global #GivingTuesday!

Gulf Specimen Aquarium is a one-of-a-kind place where people get to have close up, hands-on experience with all kinds of marine life. We have inspired a love for the ocean in the hearts and minds of many of our visitors. In the midst of all the hurricanes and natural disasters we have faced over 50 years, Gulf Specimen has persevered and never had to temporarily close its doors to the public until this viral pandemic.

We have helped many of our visitors uncover the mysteries of the ocean and learn about the treasures of our vast ocean through the sense of touch. Although we are temporarily closed, we have continued this very mission of education through social media and our virtual livestream programs. Over the past 60 years we have made many contributions to science, including helping discover the miracle cancer drug Bryostatin. Our toadfish and sponges have been shot into outer space to study the effects of weightlessness on cellular development and hearing. Hundreds of scientific papers list Gulf Specimen as their source of supply.

Now we need your help to keep Gulf Specimen open. Our revenue from school field trips as well as supplying scientific and educational institutions has shrunk to near zero. Every dollar goes towards sustaining our animals, paying our essential staff and continuing our online educational programming! Here are some ways that you can help this #GivingTuesday:

1.) Make a donation on our website: https://gulfspecimen.org/donate/

2.) Join our Amazon Smile program: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/59-2021454

3.) Get some books and t-shirts from our online gift shop: https://gulfspecimen.org/giftshop/

4.) Share or join our weekly Facebook livestreams!

We would like to thank you again for all the support that you have given us, we would not have made our mission of education possible without you!

Sincerely,
The Staff at Gulf Specimen Marine Lab
