A proposed bike path extension at Alligator Point will be delayed while the county tries to find more companies that want to build the path.

A proposed bike path extension at Alligator Point will be delayed while the county tries to find more companies that want to build the path.

The project will extend the bike path about 2.8 miles from the boat ramp to East Harbor Circle at a cost of about 1.6 million dollars.

The project is being funded by the Florida Department of Transportation.

County commissioners held a bid opening for the project earlier this month, but only two companies bid on the project.

Under Florida Department of Transportation rules a minimum of three bids are needed.

The county rejected both bids without opening them and are now re-advertising the project in the hopes a third company will show an interest.
