The Florida legislature finished their work last Friday and Franklin County may have some money in the new budget as long as the line items survive the Governor's veto.

State Senator Lorraine Ausley stopped by Tuesday's Franklin County Commission meeting and shared some of the projects that are currently funded in the budget.

That includes 250 thousand dollars for a fire suppression system at the Fort Coombs Armory.

That project is a priority for Franklin County as it is required by the State Fire Marshall and is vital to make the historic building more accessible as a convention center and a destination for private events like weddings.

There is also 100 thousand dollars in the budget for the city of Apalachicola for stormwater and back flow devices for the city's sewer system.

Senator Ausley said there is also a million dollars in the budget to help restore the Apalachicola Bay and a million and a half million dollars for regional mapping to figure out where we have internet and where we don't for future broadband expansion.

A number of competitive grants were also funded for groups doing cultural activities in the county including Franklin's Promise, the forgotten coast cultural coalition, shipwreck of dog island and the southeast archaeological foundation.

The Senator said there could also be a lot of dollars coming from Washington for small counties which will benefit Franklin County.
