Jon and Michel Turner were super excited to host our May networking luncheon, especially since last year’s event had to be cancelled due to COVID - 19. Jon and Michel wanted the community to know how much Donkeys Bar & Grill appreciates Wakulla’s patronage and support, and especially over the last year! Jon and Michel plan on building a new Donkeys, a free - standing building, next to the new Publix in Crawfordville. Parking should be much easier at the new location, so we all look forward to that! Everyone enjoyed the BBQ pork, beans, loaded baked potato casserole and the salad with Caesar and their home - made Ranch dressing. Apparently, Jon is a pretty good grill master and participates in cook-offs. Mary started out by introducing our new members, Greyes Place and Learning Curve Tutoring LLC. We saw many new faces today; Marjorie Hamilton with PhantaSea Day Spa; Tammy Brannan and Michael Eaton with D.R. Horton and building Superintendent Jordan and his trainee Noah; Kim Galban and Debra Jump with Lighthouse of the Big Bend; the new warden of Wakulla Correctional Institution, Paul Allen; Robin Colson with TCC Online Workforce Division; Evelyn Savary with Operation Santa; and Niraj Patel introduced his cousin, Gary Patel. It was a pleasure meeting everyone! Marva Preston gave a quick overview of a local program providing food boxes for food insecure families, and the stocking of blessing boxes around the county so people in need can stop by and pick up items. We would love for a few local businesses to be willing to host and/or offer their office as a pick - up location for food boxes. If anyone is interested in donating a food box, please call the chamber office at 926-1848 and we will email the list of items to include in the boxes for individuals or families. Rachel Pienta with our Extension Office announced the 4-H Open House August 28, where children can visit with club leaders and sign up for various clubs. Anyone interested in volunteering to lead a club, start a new club, or assist a leader can reach Rachel at 850.926.3931. Katie Taff was excited to share the second Annual Boots and Bingo fundraising event for Wakulla Rotary, 6pm on June 12 at the Wakulla Community Center. Tables for 8 are available for $400, individual tickets $35. Both options include bingo game cards. Tickets can be purchased online through Rotary Club of Wakulla Facebook page, under their events section, or from Rotary members. The Rotary Club is also selling drawing tickets for a bottle of very hard to come by Pappy Van Winkle for $50 each, and only 100 tickets will be sold. The $67 cash drawing was won by Krystal Sheppard at the Wakulla News. We had some awesome drawing prizes and are very appreciative of our members and guests contributing to the drawings. Many thanks to the following for their contributions: Donkeys Bar & Grill, Marv and Clyde Preston, Kevin Story – Front Porch Creations Florist, Barns Spirits, United Way of the Big Bend, Shepard Accounting and Tax Service, Revell Electric and Automated Access, Smith Thompson, PA, English Financial Group, Lube Expert, City of St. Marks, PhantaSea Day Spa, The Wakulla News and Wakulla Neighbor, Talquin Electric Coop., and Liberty Partners of Tallahassee. The June luncheon will be hosted by Sherlock Springs, catered by The Kast Net.
