The Franklin County Commission gave final approval to its 2021-2022 budget Tuesday night

The Franklin County Commission gave final approval to its 2021-2022 budget Tuesday night.

The proposed budget is a little over 77 million dollars.

The budget does represent a tax increase of 1.3 percent but most people won't see it.

A homeowner with a house valued at $150,000 with a $50,000 homestead exemption would have paid $578 in county taxes in 2020.

At the proposed 2021 rate and the Consumer Price Index adjustment to value, that homeowner will pay $555 in county taxes.

The budget does include the first year of a 5 year pay and classification plan that will change pay scales for county workers – that adds about 450 thousand dollars to the budget.

There is also a 4 percent increase in county health insurance premiums.

There were also increases in most county department budgets including sheriff's department, solid waste, parks and recreation, mosquito control and the county library among others.

Overall there is about 1.3 million dollars in budget increases this year, along with 967 thousand dollars in budget cuts.

The new budget takes effect on October the 1st.
