Vets for Pets this Saturday at the VFW Post 10069 in Highland View

Approximately nine years ago, Doug and Nancy Calendine; representing the Willis V Rowan American Legion Post 116 began a German Night to benefit the St Joseph Bay Humane Society. Throughout the years German Night grew to “Vets for Pets” by adding the John C Gainous VFW Post 10069 and VFW Auxilary as hosts; and additionally added the DAWGS in Prison program as co-benefactors. The DAWGS in Prison program (Co-Directed by Sandy Christy & Judy Miick) brought to light the need to match sheltered fur babies with Veterans. Unfortunately the events of Hurricane Michael and COVID placed our event on hold till now. We are pleased to bring Vets for Pets back to the community by offering a family friendly event in an outdoor setting.
Our day will begin with a Pet Parade. All children with a pet are asked to dress up along with their fur baby. If a child does not have a pet, they can dress themselves as a pet and enter. Judges will select the best entries and present prizes. The day will also include games for kids and adults. Food is available for purchase (Italian Sausage, Burgers and Dogs). We will also have a silent auction, 50/50 drawing, door prizes and music.

We ask that all attendees ensure their pets are on leashes at all times and bring a chair to get comfortable, relax and enjoy the day.

All proceeds for this event will benefit the St Joseph Bay Humane Society and Pets for Patriots. Pets for Patriots is a program that matches sheltered animals with Veterans in need. We kindly ask for monetary donations or the following pet related/care items for pets/shelter facility prior to their placement: food, treats, paper towels, toys, kitty litter, dawn soap detergent, bleach, worn towels, worn sheets, worn blankets. The Humane Society also has many volunteer opportunities if you would prefer to walk a dog or assist with the maintenance of their facility.

Come out and join the fun on
Saturday, Sept. 18 between 4-8 p.m.
at the VFW Post 10069 in Highland View.
