Wakulla County has been awarded nearly 200 thousand dollars for a study to expand high speed internet in the county

Wakulla County has been awarded nearly 200 thousand dollars for a study to expand high speed internet in the county.

The award is part of nearly $1.9 million dollars to three communities through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity’s Rural Infrastructure Fund.

The money will allow Wakulla County to conduct a broadband feasibility study including public outreach, along with the identification of areas of insufficient broadband infrastructure, potential service providers, necessary improvements and associated costs.

The Florida Job Growth Grant Fund is an economic development program designed to promote public infrastructure and workforce training across the state.

Other recipients of the grant money include Walton County to improve access and the availability of broadband internet services and the Town of Lake Placid to expand the town’s sewer system and eliminate commercial septic tanks impacting Lake Placid.
