Franklin and Gulf County's COVID-19 positivity continues to fall.


On Friday the Florida Department of Health announced Franklin County's COVID positivity rate is 6.8 percent – that's down from 8.8 percent the week before


In mid-August it was nearly 38 percent.


Gulf County's positivity rate also fell to 3.8 percent from its highs of over 28 percent in August.


The Franklin County Health Department said 10 of the 146 COVID tests administered from October 1st and the 7th.


In Gulf County, 8 of 211 tests were positive.


Even with the numbers dropping, it is still recommended that everyone 12 and over get vaccinated, especially with winter on the way.


If you are vaccinated, the chances of getting COVID-19 are much lower and the vaccine has been proven to reduce the severity of illness, and the chances of hospitalization, and death.


Currently 53 percent of Franklin County residents 12 and older are vaccinated against the coronavirus; The vaccination rate in Gulf Couty is 52 percent.


Both counties are well below the statewide vaccination average of 72 percent.


Rapid testing is now available in both Franklin and Gulf Counties.

Testing operations have been set up in Apalachicola, Carrabelle, Port St. Joe and Wewahitchka.


COVID-19 vaccinations are available free of charge at the Health departments in Apalachicola and Port St. Joe as well as through Weems Memorial Hospital, Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf, PanCare of Florida, Inc., North Florida Medical Center and some local pharmacy locations, including CVS and Buyrite.
