see how animals are being saved in Gulf County! - The e-newsletter of the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society

October 2021 Newsletter

Fur the Record

Some people go beyond the call of duty - the September 18th Vets for Pets event was a fantastic reminder of that. On that single Saturday, from 4pm to 8pm, $4000 was raised to help us match our shelter animals with Gulf County Vets in need of an emotional support animal or dog, in conjunction with Pets for Patriots. Games, costumes, contests, and wonderful company were all enjoyed in abundance. All of this was possible thanks to the following posts:

  • Willis V Rowan American Legion Post 116

  • John C Gainous VFW Post 10069

  • Auxiliary VFW Post 10069

And thanks to all the pet lovers that showed up and supported Gulf County's vets and pets at the event!

Happy adoption days!

September was full of wonderful and happy adoption days at the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society! If you follow us on Facebook, you can see these posted on the day of adoption. To view them now, simply click the name and smile as you see their happy faces! Among the animals we sent off to new homes in September were WranglerBart & HomerLunaDieselCaptain & TenilleCindy & FranklinMilaCharlie, and . . .

. . . a SUPER special update on Casper. What could be better than an adoption? Being reunited with his original owners! Casper, actually Hemi, was spotted by his family, who never stopped looking for him after 11 months and brought back home this past month. Hemi was so excited once he heard his real name come from his owner. Have a wonderful life, sweet boy!!

Tails of Love: Our Most-Adoptable Animals

Our most-adoptable animals waiting for homes. Can't adopt right now? You can still support these cute animals by sponsoring them on Petfinder. Your donations made by sponsoring them allows us to afford the best care possible for their stay with us, and when they find their forever home, it allows us to continue providing quality care for future animals.

Hi, I'm Clover! I am a 1-year-old, 6-pound domestic shorthair. I am extremely loving and affectionate! I was brought to SJBHS by animal control along with my 3 kittens who unfortunately passed away shortly after arriving due to suspected severe upper respiratory infections. I have been through a lot in my short life but I remain so sweet! Come by the shelter to meet me and all of my friends!

Hi, I'm Tucker! I am a 43-pound pointer mix and a total bundle of love! I am super affectionate and never want to leave your side. I would need to be in a home where I will not be left alone for too long during the day. I am dog and cat friendly so I would make the perfect addition to almost any family, especially if you work from home or are retired.

In the Spawtlight

Our volunteer spotlight shines bright on Kerri Acosta Swires this month. Kerri is a realtor for Berkshire Hathaway-Windmark here in Port St. Joe and is married with one stepson. Since moving here from Los Angeles three years ago, she's been involved with the Port St. Joe garden club, as well as volunteering weekly with us to walk our dogs and help out with adoption events. Kerri walks rain or shine, always with a smile on her face!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a cause as near and dear to our hearts as rescuing these innocent cats and dogs. Board members, staff, volunteers, and supporters of the SJBHS have been affected by this violent illness. So we would like to send our warmest thoughts out to any of our readers that are dealing with the effects of breast cancer.

Our Community is the Cat's Meow

From upcoming events to ways to help the SJBHS, you are the ones who are saving lives, one tail at a time.

Sweet baby Ezra found his forever home after joining the Thrift Hut team!

Thank you all for making September a great month for Faiths Thrift Hut! A new helper actually popped in: Ezra! Once he was put up for adoption at the Hut, it didn't take long for him to find his furever home. That little fella will be missed, but seeing how the transition went so well, it's inspired us. From now on, the Hut will keep a store cat in order to help get these SJBHS babies adopted out. October's kitty is Mr. Jubilee (Joobs). He's already been a huge help and can't wait to say hi! So come on by, meet Joobs, and take home some goodies from the Thrift Hut!

And don't forget about the 50/50 drawing. Winner takes half the cash pot and the drawing is on October 11th. Come by and grab a ticket and best of luck to everyone!
