Franklin County commissioners have agreed to take bids for a new scale house at the county landfill as the current building is nearly 30 years old and has mold.

A recent assessment of the building found inadequate insulation and an oversized cooling system has fostered excess moisture in the air inside the building and cracks in the stucco finish which has allowed water intrusion over the years.

A new scale house was already part of the landfill's capital improvement plan, though they expected to get a few more years out of it.

But since they have now detected mold the replacement will have to happen as soon as possible.

The replacement scale house would be modular and meet modern wind load, efficiency and accessibility requirements.

They expect it to cost about 50 thousand dollars.
