Some local students will get a chance to learn more about careers in aviation through the local Experimental Aircraft Association.
The group met this month with the STEM program and the Navy Junior ROTC programs at the Franklin County School to explain the Young Eagles program.
The Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give young people the opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane.
Students who participate receive a free Experimental Aircraft Association student membership, providing them access to numerous benefits including a Learn to Fly course, free admission to over 300 science and technology museums, their first flight lesson for free, and access to numerous online and print publications related to aviation.
The students will be offered a free flight from the Apalachicola airport during the second week of February.
The field trip will also include a tour of the airport facilities and a close up look at some of the aircraft.
There are also about a dozen scholarships available to students ranging from pilot licensing to aircraft maintenance.
