The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has been awarded just over 2000 dollars to help purchase weather resistant truck bed storage boxes.
Over the past few years the sheriff's department has transitioned away from using cars to using trucks as their patrol vehicles as they are more useful on our beaches, swamps and forests.
The downside is there is not as much space to store deputies gear in a safe and secure manner.
The 2000 dollar award through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Equipment Grant will allow the sheriffs office to purchase 6 custom toolboxes allowing deputies to keep their weapons and other equipment in good working order and out of sight.
The boxes also allow deputies to have quick access to their weapons and other equipment as needed during any given emergency.
